I've got about thirty or so miles on it now and the only problems I have is it is a pain to start if I stop and then try to start going again right away, and the hole in the oil container cap squirts out oil sometimes on the back of my leg. Otherwise, my two year project is on the road! Also, once the bike was timed and running properly, I found that my spring and idle screw issue went away. I had it set in with the little knurled nut and the idle was way too high, backed it off and put the spring back on and all is well.
Whew! Glad to hear you got it running. Thanks for giving us an update.
The Mikuni carb, as I have said many times before, is about the best carb you can hang on a Sporty.
I believe a lot of your problem was with the ignition timing and the tight valve setting before that.
