Dan, the product that the shop used to clean and reseal my tanks is called KBS Klean and KBS Gold Sealer (they make several grades of sealer, this is suppose to be the best) This product is a system and you need to follow the direction carefully. You can find the product online. Hope this helps, good luck with you bike> Jim

Sorry I had to break up my reply, here's the rest.
These guys do quality work and I was pleased with the final job, inside of the tanks looked great and they didn't F'up the paint. So to answer your question, I didn't do that work myself, I had it done. I do know that these guys are pretty meticulous about their work, that's why I had them do it. I forget what the name of the system that they used to clean and reseal my tanks, but if you want I can call them up and get it for you. One thing that I will tell you is that once my tanks were clean I replaced the petcock and gas line and had the carb sonic cleaned before rebuilding it. I did not install an inline filter this time, I find that they restrict the flow of gas and usually cause more problems than they fix. Hope this helps, good luck with your project. Jim

Dan, my tanks were pretty rusty (especially the left side) and it was causing the inline filter (that was on the bike when I bought it) to clog up. At first I just cleaned out the filter, the petcock screen, and the carb. I was able to get the bike running and tried riding it around the local area, but within a month the filter clogged up again and the bike quit running. That was when I found out how bad the rust was inside the tanks. At that point I knew that I had to fix the rust problem. I did not want to f'up the paint, it's a respaint with repo strips, but was a fairly nice job that cost the old owner some bucks to have done. I took the tanks over to a old school Harley shop in my area and had them clean out the tanks and reseal them.

    Hello BB.No8:
Nice bike in show your shovelhead. My bike is posted a bit up from yours. Perhaps you can be of help to me as I flush out any gremlins from AMF and 1980 lol.
Curious what you did to solve your rust in gas tanks on your shovel that you rode to The Prowl in Bisbee? I picked up a 1980 Flh and it had a bit of rust on the bottom but not too bad really. I used Ospho and the BB's spashing around then a rinse with Marvel Mystery oil. My tanks like yours are original paint and I want to preserve the original paint on the tanks. One additional note. I had some cutting out bogging issues until I put an inline fuel filter on even though it has a Pingle Petcock screen in the tank. I was running a .0295 int. jet so went to a .031 as well. That cured the issues.
    Thanks again, Dave
