Default M8 headpipe

A buddy picked up a 17RGS, and is waiting for the release of aftermarket headpipes. When I was looking at the fb page for Fullsac the pics of their pipe looks like they have equal sized pipes leading to the mufflers, vs the stock which are larger on one side. Anyone notice that? That should allow the the use of 09-16 mufflers.

Thanks, it's the latest post on their fb page. It will be interesting to see what they do size wise with the x chamber, from what I've read there is no real advantage to having a larger pipe without a cat. Thanks again.

I have not visited their page, but if fullsac built a header for the M8 they probably made it with equal sized exit pipes.

I think saw somewhere that V&H did the same thing with their new M8 header.

Looking at the latest pics they posted, it looks like the same size as the previous x pipes. The muffler doesn't look like it's been modified for a larger diameter inlet. They are using their baffle so it would have to fit an existing muffler. I don't think the have had time to adapt to new mufflers. Anyway it looks good for the future.

Honestly, that would make a lot of sense. I have no idea why Harley would make different diameter connections for the left and right side. Maybe there is an engineering reason with the engine to do that, but from a manufacturing sense, its completely stupid.

OR maybe it was done specifically to gain more market in the muffler market. This is what I actually believe.

I think that there were two purposes. One was a market share for sure, but when the moved the cat back further and had that dramatic turn for the crossover, they increased the size to help flow. This also allows more exhaust to flow out of the r/s muffler. Although they say there is a reduction chamber in the muffler to get back to the original baffles size, but I have no first hand knowledge or have seen pics. As before we'll have to wait and see, lol!

I agree. It is the same reason Apple changes their connectors on their phones and computers every few years. Apple makes 100's of millions on these changes and trust me they are no accident. They say better functionality, sometimes, maybe. But who can blame them? I buy tons of Apple product and I also buy Harley....... I was talking to tech support at V&H and they said the new head pipes and muffler setups require major re-engineering. Since HD had access early (obviously) they had at least a 1 year head start on the aftermarket folks.
