The second part occurs on my early built 2017 Limited. Since my bike idles at 850, I'm going to see about having service bulletin M1436 applied tomorrow. Maybe that will help with the engine trying to stall. Though I think it's the hydraulic clutch system that they changed for the 17's from the 14 and 15's. That clutch system (once learned) I had no problem with the friction zone. On the 17, the friction zone sometimes seems to change on it's own.
I changed out the clutch lever for an adjustable one . World of difference for me. The idle speed had nothing to do with the stalling. The reason for the increased idle had more to do with the high charging at idle . No issue now.

Default guys, I'm tellin you...............

new clutch safety switch nailed it for me. there is some connection there, but not an electrical engineer. my bike would lope, hunt, and almost die at stops regularly. no relation to eitms, because it wasn't turned on. it idles at a steady 850 now, and is perfect. In eitms, it goes up to around 900-950 due to front cylinder getting more gas. someone shared the safety switch malfunction drove the canbus crazy......dunno. will say the bike is now perfect and a joy at stops and lights.

The "idle update" was to address stalling complaints from owners. From the documentation it had nothing to do with the charging system.
The M8 charging system was improved over the TC to deliver more amps at idle out of the box.

Not the one done to mine. The stalling was letting clutch out real slow at slow speed. Bring the engagement in with the adjustable lever solved that.

That was the point of the update. Raise the idle so there was a little more engine speed/momentum to play with when you release that touchy clutch.

Good that the lever you bought helped as well. I found I didn't need one (for that reason) after having the update. Bike used to surprise! stall all the time before that.

Question.
When an engine idles too low, doesn’t that lower compression?
And when compression is too low, does that compromise mechanical components that rely on optimum compression and engine speed in order for them to work properly?

I liked the lower rpm idle speed due to the "potato, potato" sound on my '17 RG, but when I put a S&S intake and downloaded the tune from Fuel Moto via the Dyno Vision on the bike it raised the idle to 950. From what I was told the idle was raised due to keep the oil pressure from getting too low.

Mines 850 warmed up and I like it.

Took bike to dealer yesterday. While hooked up to the computer at the dealer, they said update M1436 was already done. So while computer was hooked up they said there was another update Harley came out with a couple months ago and they applied that to my bike. Still idles at 850.
I'm calling them this week to see what the latest update addressed.
