I'm not even sure yet what's involved to do this job, but before I start...will I need to retune or will I be ok? Ill be sticking with the factory slip ons until I decide on a brand.
Also, if anyone has any tips to do the job I'd much appreciate it.
Just removing CAT will not require a tune. 02 senors are in front of the CAT. Look at this picture. The cat is easy to get to from the end of the pipe. It could be gotten out with out cutting and welding. It will take some work but can be done. With care it could be done without removing the header.
I have considered removing it but heat has not been a big issue yet.
I'd advise keeping your stock headers and getting aftermarket ones if you want to delete the Cat. Should your state ever decide to do emissions inspections on motorcycles, or if needed for a trade-in to a dealer, it would be good to be able to put them back on. Just a thought.
eBay usually has them for about 130 bucks already gutted. Keep yours in the attic "just in case" and sport the eBay gutted ones. Otherwise all you need is some paddle bits and extensions and drill it out.
Not worried about needing a catted header pipe. I guess if I do, I'll worry about it at that time. I'd like to remove the cats out of what I already have. Thanks for the pics. I'll see what I can do.
As you can see in the picture I posted , it is easier to get to than it was on the 103's.
It will take some work that dam CAT is thought . But you can break it out from the end of the pipe. Just take you time once you have most of it out you can scrape the rest out.

it does look much easier to get to than the 103s. I'm going to try it without cutting and welding. Heat hasn't been an issue. I'm hoping it will make it a little louder
