First 500, don't lug it, don't use full throttle. Otherwise let it run thru the rev range and don't baby it has been my break in practice for many bikes and many manufacturers. Never an issue, always strong motors.

just broke in my 124 engine and a 117 i built for a friend . 3 heat cycles got it out on the highway in 3rd gear roll on throttle up to 3500 rpms let off, decel down to 1000 rpms and repeated several times . got it on some back twisty roads and repeated process for 25 miles. shifting up through the gears into 4th did not lug the engine. the rings by this time have had a good chance of sealing there contact against the cylinder walls. I did this until i had 150 miles on build and drained oil it was dirty! kept the rpms under 4k until 200 miles on new engines, next 100 miles up to 4500 rpms and after that up to 5000 rpms at 400 miles full throttle operation through the gears have never had any problems with any motor i have done this too. did compression checks after 50 miles spot on where they should be and used a bore scope to look inside no unusual wear. actually i will be putting the first 50 miles on my brothers new 2017 FLHXS which he bought last night and we pick it up on Thursday!

Congratulations on the new motorcycle. I've got a little over four thousand miles on my 17 RGU and loving that M8 engine myself, ride safe.

use it, don't abuse it first 1k. vary revs to 4200 after 500 miles. best break (for me) in is steady rev up's under load to between 3200-4500. now and then steady roll on to 5k.
that's what i do. that's how i ride generally.
jmo, i am not a pro.

In 2009, when I bought my new FLHX, started the HD "wimpy" break-in and bike had 80-miles. Found the MotoTune New Motor Break-in article and ran it. A year later, at 15K miles, did some motor work and removed jugs...those heads/pistons looked like new. It's proof, properly seating the rings is key.

Just bought new '17 FXDLS and bike had 5-miles on ODO when I left dealer...hit the highway and ran MotoTune break-in on the way home.

I'm not going to tell owners/riders what to do and...it's your bike so break-in as you wish. Just trying to relay some insight on various motor ops methods and how they can impact bike's future. Also, FWIW, your ride's on a 2-yr warranty (more if you purchase ESP) so why not give it a good shake-down test off the bat? If something breaks, HD will fix.

Cheers!

Congrats on your new bike, you're dialed in on the break-in period so have fun and enjoy.

I took the wife to local dealer on Sat to get a part for her bike, big mistake, walked out with a new RG myself. Hate going to the dealer, love the new bike though.
Unless they've ridden the new 107 they wont understand.... It's a whole new bike, it's almost like it's not a Harley it's so smooth.

That's what I was thinking. It's definitely not like my 96 cI 2008 Rocker or my 103 cI 2013 Deluxe. It has power for days and it's quick as hell.

I've had a few new Harley's and always broke them in according to the Owners Manual and never had an issue with any of the engines. Hope you have the same luck.

No testing the rev limiter for the first while but IMO you have to put some load on the engine to seat the rings properly. I believe this is mentioned in the owner's manual break-in procedure.
