My 17 SGS, when new, was a bit clunky with a sometimes difficult to find neutral. As the miles continued to build a bit, it seemed to iron the bugs out. Now, with 3000 on the clock, transmission shifts smoothly and much quieter than any Harley I have ever ridden, with the occasional, but not loud, clunk. Neutral is now easier to find than any bike I've ever had.

YMMV

Mine clunks some not bad and so did the few i test road before buying mine. Not as bad as my others in the last have though. It is getting better as i have learned its sweet spots on the rpm range. Also learned to pump the clutch once or twice before going in to first. Its smooth as butter 90 percent of the time since i started doing it. It is very easy to find neutral on my bike. Prolly the easiest i have owned.

Not perfect but not bad for a harley.

little scary hearing this. I just picked up my 2017 road king today. I will pay special attention to this and I might be back for guidance if I hear anything.

My 17 Road King clunks especially when it is hot. The only comfort I can take is that today, stuck in traffic in 90 degree weather, the Indian next to me clucked so loud, I could hear it over my engine noise and helmet. We are not alone.

It's a 50/50 kinda deal sometimes it shifts nice and smooth but others sounds like your throwing a hammer in a bucket it clanks so loud. Embarrassing in around town traffic some days.

With my bike, Just running the primary fluid down to the bottom of the clutch basket, instead of the bottom of the pressure plate like the manual calls, makes a difference. any amount of overfill really clunks. This go around, Im at the bottom of the basket and its pretty quiet.

@ 750 miles on mine, clunks on most shifts but the shifts are perfect and the noise is of no concern to me, just different.
