Default Arlen Ness Big Sucker versus SE Stage 1 air cleaner

Does anyone know how much bigger the Arlen Ness kit is versus Harley’s Stage 1 air cleaner kit? From the pictures on FM’s site it looks like it’s a fair amount larger. I’m interested in swapping my SE out for the Ness if the Big Sucker does flow better

The limitation is the throttle body, so they both will yield the same results, I would think, given that open is open, neither can shove more air in than the actual capacity of the throttle body.

The limitation isn’t just the diameter of throttle body, it’s the surface area of the filter and the design of the backplate, inlet, etc.

There’s been talk about the ventilator being too small, and the heavy breather and K&N version of the HB both picking up a few HP and TQ on the right side of the graphs

I keep going back to this comparison that one of our members did that shows that the High Flow (HF), Heavy Breather (HB), and Ventilator (V), all seem to have 'roughly" the same performance. Although the heavy breather does seem to have a clear edge between 2,500 and 4,000 RPM.

If your tuning with the SEPST I would stick with the HD filter because its matched to your stage I tune. I say that because going from the K&N in the factory housing to the High Flow made my bike run smoother with better throttle response. Point being the SEPST may not like the Ness, it sure did not like the K&N or the S&S I also tried out in my bike. Im just pointing out my observations, yours may differ.

I didn’t consider that. I have the Stage 2 and keep thinking of going to an aftermarket cam and headpipe

When I get home from work I'll take a picture of each side by side. The AN is substantially bigger.

I like the way the filter element is all the way around the body.
