Default First trip on my m8

Took my first big trip on my 17 FLHTK and I must say it ran flawlessly. SOCAL to Sturgis and back a little over 3800 miles with no issues. After following the forum and reading about sumping issues and such I was hesitant. Several days of running at 80 to 90 mph for hours at s time I was expecting the worst. Never a heat issue even tho we ran two up fully loaded in 112-115 degree temps. (Death Valley)

congrats, and not surprised that your bike functioned and operated as part of the vast majority!

while I realize that some people have had sumping issues, I honestly believe that a lot of people are on that chicken little mode a little too much. last year I did a 1200 mile trip. no issues at all except a little fatigue by the rider. last week I did a short 250 mile round trip, again no issues.

I have very good confidence that my stock except slip on's 17 M8 will go anywhere I want it to without problems. I just keep up with the scheduled maintenance with the dealer and I am good.

I have taken several 500 mile trip since I purchase the bike 9 months ago, with 13k I've never had an issue, but have never run 85+ for that amount of time. It's still stock so that may be helping.

Its a shame everyone is so worried about sumping when its not a problem on most stock HD motorcycles its bin so hyped up and every one is waiting for it to happen to them. Just get out there and ride

We just spent a week on 2018 CVO Limited and put 2300 miles. The bike ran great. We ran 7 hours on I 90 at 80mph. I’ve been worry a lot apparently for no reason. I had a 2014 CVO 110 before and I’m not sure I see much difference in performance. The 110 did have a SEST and Vance and Hines exhaust. The 110 might of had more low end torque. So far I love this bike. The worst day riding beats the best day working.

If you read the forums the last 5 years you will think the sky is falling. Lol. Have been on 4 different m8s since 2016 total of 18,000 miles.....clutch stiff on one.....
Just did 4200 on the latest one myself. Not a glitch except gas tank needs filling every 200-225 lol

Congrats on the successful trip! I rode there with my GF in 2013.
Only problem I had with my M8 was the clutch actuator failed at 7k miles. Heard of a couple other forum members having this problem too.
