Tested Sport Glide, then Heritage, wound up w/new SG!
Kinda funny how it happened, as a Street Glide wasn't even on my radar.....
Been thinking about a new bike for about a year now, and my dealer is offering some good deals on leftover '18's, so I stopped in yesterday to do some test rides.
First up was a new Sport Glide, not really one of the models I was interested in but thought what the hell, I'll check it out. I was actually surprised that with the mid-forward controls it fit my 6-1 frame pretty well. I think it would be a fun ride for around town and shorter tours but the lack of wind protection rules it out for my intended uses.
Next up was a Heritage Classic 114. This was the model I really had my eye on and it was even in my favorite '18 colors of olive gold/black tempest. I was very impressed with it during the test ride - good power, ride and handling and with a Tallboy seat installed I think it would have fit me perfectly. I rode back to the dealership and was about to start some serious negotiations when out of the corner of my eye I spotted a silver Street Glide.....
At that moment the sales manager happened to walk by. He sees me checking out the SG and says, "whaddaya think?" I said I like the Heritage but this is pretty sharp too. He says, "we just got that Street Glide in a dealer transfer and the buyer backed out of the deal. You buy it today and I'll give you $5,000 off the price, plus first service for free".
And the rest, as they say, is history. The dealer is discounting their '18 Softails by $3,000 so the Street Glide was actually a few hundred cheaper than the Heritage. I pick her up later today; pics to follow!
