Do you feel like you should be able to install a big bore kit and have the factory warranty the whole motor?

It depends on the parts. For example, I’ve always done my own Stage 1, including slip-ons, and the ECM flash myself and I’ve never had a warranty issue with MOCO. I’ve used aftermarket tuners previously and never used the Harley Pro Street Tuner until my current bike. I’ve flashed the ECM numerous times doing auto-tunes and updates. I also do all my own maintanence. That being said, MOCO has never denied warranty coverage on any of my motorcycles, including engine repairs. In fact, they’ve never questioned me or even asked to see my records.

Now, would MOCO cover a Stage 4 or other internal engine work installed done by a customer? No, and I don’t blame them in that instance.

I have been witness to many total BS comments made by dealership employees over the years, but sometimes misunderstandings do happen.....

Would never attempt z stage 4 install. Simple things like air cleaner, slip on mirrors etc. I also asked a second dealer, he explained more clearly as several people here stated.
I install 1 yr parts warranty
Dealer install 2 yr nine warranty.
I also have never had a warranty issue on parts I previously installed. It seems with the epa fine they are getting stricter

Mirrors, pegs and racks no problem, good luck getting your internals covered.

FWIW....

When I bought my 2012 FLHTK, I had the dealer install a stage II (air cleaner, cams, exhaust, tune), and other accessories, before I took delivery..

At that time, the rule was...... as long as the engine parts were all Harley/Screamin' Eagle parts, were all 50 states legal, and they were installed by the dealer, then the engine upgrade would be covered under the factory 2-year warranty...

The dealer also needs to add the parts/mod into some Harley computer system (don't know the name), but when I was 5 states away from my dealer, another dealer was able to verify via computer that my original dealer installed the parts and they were covered under the factory warranty...

absolutely, No problem with dealer installed anything. My comment was directed to parts the owner installs. Good luck getting that set of noisy lifters you installed warrantied.

Forget what the dealer tells you. Forget what anyone tells you. If it isn't written, it doesn't exist. What's written is gospel.

This is HD's actual warranty

My dealership told me the same thing the OPs did. They installed MK45 slip-ons from my other bike at time of purchase. I asked them if I voided my warranty. They were not sure... LOL.
