I have had luck with a hammer and drift to break the broken extractor tip before, then back to where you were.....

Fork tube is on the other side of that hole and it's a real shallow one, you really want to be hammering a hardened piece of steel into it ?

Appreciate the assumption of my strength to pound through the extractor and the remaining stud piece right on into the fork tube.

More than one angle to hit at....might's well angle it to try and back the the bolt out at the same time.

If it were in my garage I'd move the fairing clear a weld a nut on it, but yeah I'd wail on it no worries.

I've had this happen to me more times than I care to count. If you used a cheap extractor (like I have) and broke off the tip (like I have), Like mentioned try a carbide drill and drill the whole thing out. That's worked for
me in the past. I now have a Dewalt carbide drill bit set on hand.

Thanks for all the help. It was a LONG process including some grinding with the dremel. Once I grinded the easy out down, I could drill through fine. The higher dollar extractor did not budge the bolt. I ended up having to drill a larger hole and retap new threads.

I screwed we’d up with drilling as the stud was all the way resting on the fork. You guessed it, on the first small bit, I went through the fork. Fork fluid was oozing when I saddled the bike. Anyways, I cleaned it up and sanded the best I could given the tight space and have JB Weld on it. Waiting for it to cure to see if it will hold. What a total mess this has become.

I would be very hesitant of the JB weld someday letting go, guaranteed it would always be a concern playing over and over in my head as I was cruising along.

that and a 30.00 rebuild kit and rest easy as you ride on!!
