I guess since its not broken in I would have to ask how you ride? Do you ride it or ***** foot around?

My indie told me years ago when riding a new bike, ride it like your going to ride. Just don't over rev it or lug it! Never had a new Harley use much oil of any significance. Someone said here that he questioned weather the rings are seated? Good question!

Get out and ride it. Run it up to 70 for a few miles then back it down some and do the same. Then run around town for a few miles. Run the Rs up between shifts. Listen to the bike, it will tell you when to shift.

I just checked the air filter and it was clean as could be had just a drop of oil inside the filter. I also just checked the primary oil level and it is the same as when I did the 1000 mile service so my oil isn't going there either.

Is it smoking? Have you looked at the plugs for signs of oil burning? How does it run?

Well I have nailed down my oil consumption even more. Looks like I am using one once per 100 miles. In the last week I have put 1242 miles on my softail and as best as I can figure I have used 12.5 ozs. Now I come to that amount by dividing the 18 marks on the dipstick by 32. which gives me 1.77 ozs per mark on the dipstick. In that mileage (1242 miles) my oil level has gone down 7 marks on the dipstick. I am checking the oil level with the engine hot letting it idle straight up for 2 minutes then shutting the engine off placing the bike on the jiffy stand, letting it sit for a couple minutes then checking the oil. And according to Harley this oil consumption is well with in acceptable limits. I'm not happy about this, but it is what it is. BTW to answer one of the previous questions. The bike is bone stock and runs strong and smooth.

that hurt a little bit to compute but I'm in no condition to dispute it

It might find it's own level. Ride it several hundred more miles and see if it uses any more oil. See what the plugs look like. At least check the 2 easy to get to plugs.
