New S&S 540 Cams
#41
Hello Gentlemen,
I collected the bike today with the 540 S&S cam installed. No more 475 S&S cam.
Now, I must say that my mechanic does 80% road tuning before hit puts the finishing touches with tuning the bike via the dyno. That being said, he ran out of time to dyno tune the bike, and as I wanted to take the bike for a day trip ride before heading back to work for 2-weeks, he offered for me to collect the bike for the day provided I bring it back to him to complete the tuning process via the dyno. Therefore, I will the have TQ/HP figures in 2-weeks or so.
Below are some of my observations after the day trip today -

Below are some of my observations after the day trip today -
- The bike pulls like a stolen freight train. Period. The 475 cam is awesome and has some serious pull power, but the 540 does the same thing just so much harder/faster ...and in every gear - no problem.
- With the 475 cam if I was cruising in 6th gear doing 120km/hr (75-miles/hr) and I wanted to over-take a vehicle, there would also be a 1-2 second delay (probably less time than that but it feels longer in the moment) in the motor after twisting the throttle. There is no delay with the 540 cam.
- Its fast off the line, and it feel like it pulls right through rev range. The bike feels violent while gripping the handlebars but still nice to ride at slow speed.
- Sound? Yes I think its lost its lope a little and instead it now sounds its firing cannons . That throating sound is noted and crisp as you take the bike through the gear, something now more noticeable now when compared to the 475 cam. I couldn't figure out how to insert a short YouTube I made to record the sounds, so clink on this link to view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G2_..._channel=PeteM

Easy fast way. Just cover your plate with some clothes and record it again. Your video will be good. Just wondering about the idle sound comparing to 475

Thanks for posting your results.
Your signature mentions your build including:
128ci S&S Big Bore Kit, 540C S&S Cam, SE Heavy Breather and Rinehart 2:2 Full.
It is correct to assume your stock for TB/manifold and injectors?
I’m asking to kind of understand a little better the difference you achieved by changing cam only. Any additional info is greatly appreciated.
