since you are going to save thousands by foregoing the 131 crate I would think a SE Heavy Breather and the 55mm aluminum intake would be a good performance add to compliment the rest of your upgrades..and just use the HD 8 lobe oil pump kit....the OEM paper filter and backplate aren't quite the same as the SE versions of AC..even the SE Stage 2 cam kits for your model state a "SE AC is required for proper installation"..whether it's absolutely necessary or not is up in the air but I'd rather not sell yourself short on that just in case

Look up Steve with GMR Performance. He has done a handful of these 131’s and has some good info on them.

You're making the right choice.. I just picked up my '20 RG Special after having the SE131 kit installed (dealer had a hell of a winter special).. Overall it's nice but having built motors in the past I can say my last 103 build was more seat of the pants exciting than this build.. I did the SE131 kit thinking it would be a nice upgrade and I still retain my warranty.. It's nice but it ain't breathtaking.. Dyno numbers say I should be smiling ear to ear.. 141 torque/ 124HP.. Right in line with the rest of the dyno sheets I've see for this kit.. The bottom end is soft until you hit 3k then it comes to life.. The torque dip between 1800-2500 is a result of the EPA restrictions on the MOCO and the tuner. 2-2 doesn't help either.

Regards to what Nitrochicken posted, Steve at GMR did my last let of heads and set them up for my cam and piston/compression choice and I can say he was top notch.. The throttle response off idle was instant.. That 103 just flat ran.. I'll be taking the current scooter to him when I no longer care about warranty. Quite possibly by the end of the month.. lol

I’d be extremely happy with that considering how the 114 runs stock. I’ve always loved the power on my bike. I think this route is way more reliable and economical. On Harleys website it says the 131 gets about 131 ft lbs of torque. I can’t see spending all the money for a crate engine when I can get there with a cam and good tune. Im not really chasing horsepower either. This should be a significant upgrade over stock. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks fellas I appreciate all the tips and advice! Ps do you think I need to upgrade the air cleaner too for this build? I think mine is high flow cause it’s a CVO. Just curious

Save your money, do a Harley Davidson Oil Pump, the 2020 8 lobe pump. Works great even on very high HP and torque builds. Some of the well know builders mentioned have quit using the S&S oil pump to go to the HD 2020 version. I have been running it for 21,000 miles on my 163HP build.

As for the CVO air filter, probably will not flow enough they are border line flowing enough for a HD version of a stage 2 which is less power than your looking at. The Harley Ventilator Extreme will handle it, which is what HD recommends for their 131 kit.

The only value I can see with the crate motor is if you are hell bent on having the warranty in a tact. As soon as you add a cam or tuner that goes out the window so aftermarket is the way to go if your wanting more power.

I'm curious about your reference to a torque dip between 1800 to 2500 rpm. I had the Stage IV 131 kit done before I took delivery. All HD components and tuner. It in no way compares to a good aftermarket big inch build but for a completely compliant EPA build I'm very happy with it. Great throttle response, fuel mileage and pulls great from 2000 and up.

Your run is a lot smoother than mine. He did get all he could out of it based on other 131 Stage 4 dynos I've seen..

Is yours the complete kit, or did you have some parts changed? Peak numbers seem about the same, but the torque curve is not very smooth like most runs I have seen
