Default S&s 465 vs se 447

S&S 465 VS SE 447

Is there really a difference between these two cams? Both are low torquers for bagger types. Both seem to be in the RPM range I need. Most of my riding is between 2000 and 3500 RPM. Rarely getting to the 5k or above mark unless I feel squirrely or have to pass someone with max Power.

I currently have a CR480 in a 2020 Bagger. Exhausted by an S&S Sidewinder 2-1 (prior exhaust was stock catless header and neutered V&H Hi output slips on's--same issue with powerband). I just installed this cam recently with a PV tune from FM. Riding it, the RPM range is not where it needs to be in my riding style. In any gear, at 2000 to 3000 its just blah flat, doggy, gutless. Then at 3000 and above it starts to take off like a rocket. I don't need to be doing 70 miles per hour in 4th gear just to keep the power up, and honestly, I don't care for the dragster-type idle I understand a dyno tune would probably help this a bit, but as bad as this dip in torque is, I don't think the current tune is that far off, and I still have the RPM-to-driving match issue to contend with, not to mention the nearest tuner is 3 hours away, and I probably wouldn't be able to get there till spring, anyway.. So I thought maybe a milder cam like the S&S 465 would fit the bill for a full bagger. I thought about the woods 22x, but the band would be similar, and the steep ramps on those cams are not the friendliest towards lifter bores and valve train longevity. With that said, I am looking hard at the 465. Anyone running this cam, and is it a generally better cam than the SE torque cam? I would probably just sell the CR480 after removal. Its only got about 25 miles on it.

Look here. By the testing they did, and the testing FuelMoto did, I'd say you were a candidate for the TTS100 & a tune.
Where in ArKansas are ya?

I am in Central Arkansas.

I have read that thread a couple times already (and about 400 others) before I got the CR480, I cant help but wonder how that TTS100 would compare with the S&S 465. Price wise, the TTS100 is twice as much as the S&S, and $100 more than the 480!

The TTS100 will come on off idle and pull through at least 4500 RPM's. It makes good torque at low RPM's, which it sounds like what you are looking for. The S&S 465 pulls early too, and has a lot of lope at idle but falls off fairly early too. Personally, I didn't want that much lope.

The only potential problem is I think you will have a difficult time finding a PV tune for the TTS100 form FM. You might look at the Andrews M460 as they have tunes for that cam. It pulls hard from about 1500 through 5000 RPM's. Some lope at idle, but not as drastic as the 465.

Your problem is more exhaust related than cam, find the right exhaust or see if FM has something that fits your S&S exhaust to build a little more back pressure.

MSRP reflects business size- small batch companies can't afford to have 10,000 cams ground on 1 order, so they have to spread their R&D over a lot smaller area.
Advertised MSRP for the S&S cam is $229, Fueling is $270, SE is $250, CR480 is $290, TTS is $311, and Woods is $329. I'm sure all can be found at a slight discount somewhere.

It occurs with 2 different exhausts, one of which is fairly commonly used with good reports. The first, is a stock decatted header (Replaced a catted header with it, still have both), with V&H Hi-outputs, running DB reducers. Works great with stock cam. No dips at all. The second, of course, the S&S 2-1.with DB reducers in it, also. Seems to make no difference with them in or out

I had the S&S 465 in a 2017 RGU. With a fuel moto tune on Power Vision. The bike pulled like a train and was a major jump in power to and past factory red line.
Ran Factory header with CAT in place Fuel moto Jack pot mufflers wit power cone.

Currently have the Woods 22X in a 2020 RGL 114 Power vision Fuel moto tune. No complaints Word is the 22X does well in the 107 also..

In that article, seems the redshift 468 was on par with the TTS100 as well.

I can't speak about the other cams mentioned here, but I'm running the S&S 465 cam with the Sidewinder exhaust (catless version with baffle installed) and I'm pleased with how it pulls off the line.

It has been dyno tuned using a TTS Mastertune.
