Well it finally happened, drove 3 hrs at 85-90 with earplugs and the stereo cranked, blew my left speaker. Since this is supposedly pretty common with POLK MM651's, I figured I would try and see if someone had one, yes one, speaker they wanted to get rid of.

I might have one for you. I blew one of mine this summer and am going to replace with a pair from Biketronics so that leaves me with an extra Polk. Its in the rear and I have them turned off so I'll check tonight and let you know.

Speaker works fine when I plug it in somewhere else. Now I have to do more serious testing on the wiring. If its the crossover box, I'll still be getting new speakers. Stay tuned.

 

Sure, in the mean time I have a line on a set of Infinity Reference 6502ix speakers for a good price. I'm going to check them out

 

Pulled the Polks, tweeter stalk overheated and is drooping. Common problem with the MM651's

 

let me know if you need a crossover box. If these infinity speakers sound ok, I might just write off the Polks.
