Progressive Insurance Rip-Off
#71
When USAA got rid of its motorcycle coverage, it passed most of us to Progressive. Progressive maintained the same cost about $250 a year for me untill I purchased my 2011 SG. Then the cost went up to $650. The excuse was the new bike. I called around and found Geico and others for $320, enough said. Yep, same coverage. Shop around!

Same thing here with progressive.
46yrs old riding for 20+ years (10 legally) MSF course 10 yrs ago.
Progressive 3 yrs ago went up 150 a year to around 500.00. Signed with daryland for way better coverage and about 95 dollars cheaper. Then daryland went up on my renewal this march back to progressive rates at 485.00 so I went with geico at 315.00
on a 2012 limited

Boy, what a ripoff!
I have State Farm with :
Bodily injury 100,000, 300,000, with 50,000 property damage each accident
Comp deuct--$100
Collision deduct-- $250
Underinsured motor 100,000, 300,000 with property 50,000 each accident
$319 yr for 1987 EG
My son's is $391 yr for 2003 Heritage with same coverage
I have road asst unlimited thru HOG $29 yr
I've been with them for 40+ yrs, good driving record, I guess that helps keep cost down.

The thing is that I live in CA. When I lived in IL I was paying 400. It really depends on where you live. If you live in CA your rates will be high. IL has one of the lowest insurance rates out there. Also you want to put the highest coverage you can afford. The current coverage the OP has will put him in the poor house if he doesn't have any other supplimental coverage and a good lawyer

My progressive policy on my 05 road king started at $500, 5 years ago.
It has dropped every year, and is now down to $167 a year.
Better than average coverage, good credit, and no accidents or tickets on my record.
Someone mentioned that their deductible went to zero with progressive?
That's the first time I've heard of that!
I'd better check my policy

Your best bet is to buy your insurance all in one place with one of the top companies and stick with them and your rates will be very good. State Farm, Farmers etc. You may get a cheaper rate this year from Progressive but watch out next year. It's all a racket, but for someone to insure illegals without a DL is absurd.

Farmers insures my 2007 Street Glide for $420 per year. This includes a $500 deductible.
Is BikeLine (Markel American Ins. Co.) "A" rated? This is important when it comes to customer service and financial strength of the company.
I agree with the post above about buying all insurance from the same copany. This way you'll get a group discount.
One other thing.... If you ride outside the U.S. (Canada, Mexico), make sure you're covered by your policy.
