Default Accessory & Parts Coverage

About 3 weeks a fire in my garage took out my bike, my truck, tools, cabinets, etc. What a mess. Thankfully no one was injured and the main house was fine. So.....at this stage things can be replaced and hopefully all will be well some time down the road. As with most riders, I had added a considerable amount of aftermarket stuff (of which I kept a detailed spreadsheet to verify each item with the cost and if applicable any model/ID numbers and all the original receipts). My insurance agent, recognizing the amount of money spent would be difficult to recoup with a basic policy recommended a "replacement accessory & parts" rider to the policy for a certain dollar amount. So I opted to pay the extra fee.

Obviously the bike is totaled and the amount the insurance company has offered for the base value of the motorcycle is within reasonable expectations. No complaints there.

My concern is that they are now attempting to reduce the accessory aspect of the claim and only offering about 70% of my coverage limits (and what I paid premiums for). The agent is being quite aggressive with the company to honor the coverage and I have expressed my displeasure with the process also.

Short of taking any sort of legal action, I thought there might be someone on the board that might shed some guidance or experience on how to best resolve this matter.

Thank you.

I always keep a Excel spread sheet showing all the extras I put on the bike. This also includes the dates, cost and vendor. Hopefully that will be enough info if it ever happens to me.

When I totaled mine had $3,000 in add on coverage. They just added the $,3000 no questioned ask. I was surprised.

Yep, been doing that for years and I also add in the part number (when applicable).

Just heard back from my agent. Numerous complaints and gradually moving up the administrative ladder finally paid off. Received the full amount of the policy (which you wouldn't think should be a concern) for accessories and parts.

That will now help to pay off the new bike I bought yesterday.
