How many cycles to flush ABS HCU?
#21
I go several weeks then flush again. Each time the engine is started it does one cycle of the ABS system so I suspect that is sufficient. It has worked. (so far)
Motorcycle ABS systems face different conditions than automotive systems. First they operate in a hotter environment and have a tiny volume of fluid in comparison.
And yes proper flushing of H-D's system is a H-D must. Just bleeding the brakes with a vacuum pump does not access any of the fluid in the ABS module. The digital tech rapid fires it until fully flushed.
It is simply a smart thing to do.

So if the ABS unit cycles after each engine start, why not use the power bleeder and start the engine 5,or 10 times and bleed the system in between each start. At least that's better than not doing anything???

Usually a vehicle will test the ABS each time when the vehicle is put into drive for the first time after start up and as it reaches 5 mph. If your very quit and pay attention you will hear a quick BUMP / THUMP from the floor board area or if your foot is on the brake pedal you will feel a tap under your foot when it sends pressure into the system for that fraction of a second. I would assume that bikes do the same.
