Default Handlebar Replacement 2014 FLHTK

Well I just ordered my new KST Mayhem bars and all the other goodies to go with them. I've been watching a bunch of videos about the bar change but there are a couple things that no one seems to do in the videos. 1. The brake lever switch no one does anything to this switch when removing the switch housing. But when changing the grip you are supposed to wedge it on to protect the switch... 2. I see the Street Glide guys are removing the entire inner fairing to replace bars. Is this possible for the Limited? Any one done this on a 14 and up Limited. This would be awesome since I will also be adjusting the steering head bearing while I'm in there.

Still a couple weeks away but you can't have too much information.

The manual does say to install a 4 mm thick insert between the brake lever and lever bracket. You don't actually have to remove the inner fairing. In this video, at the 7:27 mark, he shows what to do to lean the inner fairing forward in order to access the handlebar clamp.

I just pulled mine so it was out of the way. All you do is lift up and it makes it easier to move wiring when its laid down. I have a 14 limited and i put a pare of yaffes on it.

Be carefull when reinstalling the brake and clutch housing. you don't want to pinch any wires, I learned the hard way.

I'm also getting ready to change bars on a '14 FLHTK but have one question about the left hand heated grip controller. Does that grip slide off like the throttle side?

Yes all the heated grips are self contained and not glued. They just clamp in with the perch housing.

I talked to my local Dealer and to install 12 inch bars was over $1000.00 just for installation and longer brake and clutch cables. They won't reroute the stock cables they say they have to replace them. So throw in the cost of the bars, grips and poly risers at the Dealer the total would be close to $1600.00. Ouch! no way I'll do them myself..
