OK, this is a nice little town, great ride,small as far as rallys go but...
No long lines,no over inflated prices,no duck walking traffic,no hassle from the Cops
no need for taxis,No shoppin all day at vendors,, just ride all day,eat a steak,then consume fav. bev.
Thunder in the forge is a great getaway weekend,slowly growing,good chance fro a meet n greet,
plenty of rooms,
If you are sick of the commercialisim of Americade, and all the crap that goes along with it,
this is the one to attend.
we had a ball last year,, this year I wanna try and get more members to attend,
hopefully we can all stay at the above mentioned place,, and PARRR-TAAAAY!

Definitely a good time. Not crowded, and some nice riding. Evenings are good for socializing. I think we hit all 5 bars, all within walking (or stumbling) distance. I am pretty sure Rick is the mayor of Old Forge. He was shaking babies and kissing hands all night. Great little food joints up there too. Plan on coming, it will be fun. The Waters Edge Inn is a good place to stay. There are a couple other hotels and some campgrounds right there in Old Forge too.

Bump this again in the spring!

We did a fall Sunday-run up to Old Forge this past Oct. It's beautiful up there! We caught a warm afternoon and wandered all over the countryside, followed along riverbanks, just trying to get lost. I'd do it again in a heart-beat.

 

Drinking a beer on the Moose River... Priceless!

 

I'll definitely keep an eye on this. I had plans and was ready to pull the trigger on HOG Niagara, but as would have it, a high school graduation party (my daughter's) got scheduled for the middle of the State HOG rally.

A couple of question for you Rick:

1- How far in advance does this fill up and how far ahead should we consider booking a room?
2- What kind of activities are there?

Old Forge is about 235 miles from where I live so the ride up and back should be a great one.

 

I can answer these questions.

I booked my room no more than a month ahead of time. Stayed at the Waters Edge.

This is not a large rally by any means. There was a vendor area, which was not very big at all. Don't go for the vendors, you will be disappointed.

There were some guided rides through the Adirondacks. Great scenic, twisty riding.
We jumped on the bikes and rode off for dinner. No matter which way you head, nice riding.

Night time was reserved for consumption of adult beverages and checking out the town's 4 maybe 5 bars.

Rick started the thread last year hoping to get a HDF meet and greet. Many responded but it was pretty much me and him (and his wife Issy). But Rick has a way of gathering a crowd and we ended up with a group of about 12 of us for barhopping. Good time. I plan on being there again this year.

 

Thanks for the update, I guess there's no rush to get a reservation in this week. As far as vendors, if they're present I'll take a look, if not, no big deal. Now the town's few beer joints, that's something different. This sounds like a great couple of days and since I missed Rick and the Mrs. at the NYS rally last year, it might be a good way to meet a few other forum members.

Sounds like a vacation must for this year.

 

I havent attended as of yet and its right in my backyard.Not really alot of publicity on it,kinda like the adirondacks best kept secret I guess,lol.I have desired to attend,but for whatever reason it always seems to slip my mind and I end up finding out about it a week after its over,bummer.[&o]The area is wonderful to ride in,we always go in that direction when we head to americade,great scenic ride and wonderful twisty,windy roads through the adirondacks,although the Moose river road leaves something to be desired.If I am able to keep this in the back of my mind,I hope to attend for my first time this year,would be wonderful to meet a few new friends from here.Well gotta fly,talk to everyone later,keep the rubber side down.
