Default SAE 50 or SAE 60 Weight Oil

Do any of you run these weights during the summer months in the hotter states? I've run Redline V-Twin oil, but switched to Mobil V-Twin because it's much easier to find. My bike is stored in my attached garage. It never cranks at a temp below 60 degrees, even if I'm riding in the dead of winter. However, I'll be riding on a 2k mile round trip heading to Fort Worth in August. I'm wondering if the bike would benefit from a heavier oil as recommended in the manual. The obvious answer is yes, but does anyone do it? If so, what brands offer a synthetic? There seem to be fewer offerings in the single weights.

I had been running the Mobil since bike was new( 2011 FLHR). At 30k I switched to Spectro 25-60 dino and won't be going back to synthetic. Manual states it is good( not the brand per say) for 80*+ and talk about quieting down the motor....JMO

I’ve got 50 wt Lucas in mine right now. I ran it in my old bike even in the winter but haven’t run it in my current bike in cold weather. I put it in at the 1k back in September but switched to Mobil 1 in November when the temps started dropping into the 30s. It wasn’t giving me any problems but I just got paranoid. I actually like that oil very well which is why I went back to it when the weather got hot. It definitely seems to run cooler on those 90 degree days. Quiet too and the bike uses less oil. I will follow this thread because I really want to stick with the Lucas year round but I ride in some mighty cold weather. I know straight weight full synthetic flows better cold than dino does but how much better I don’t know. Lucas doesn’t publish their pour point but sae 60 Amsoil is -36 C so I’m thinking the Lucas 50 should do just fine in Ohio winters as long as I let it warm up real good. But to answer your question I run sae 50 Lucas because I trust it to keep my motor cool when it’s 93 degrees and I’m creeping along in stop and go traffic. I have had bad experiences with a couple of other 20w50 oils in those conditions.

Spectro 25-60 is my oil of choice. Here in the SF Bay area riding temps go from 35-110, never a problem. And when it comes to noise there is no equal.

We use tons of Spectro 25W60 here, and also stock, 50W, 60W.
Clients are surprised as to how that Spectro will tame engine noises.
We've carried Spectro products here for almost 20 years now, and now recently, they sponsor our racing endeavor.
