Mobil 1 V-Twin Syn ?
Hi, I am new here and have been eagerly reading the various post concerning Mobil 1 Syn and H-D Syn as well as the other syn oils. From what I have read the odds on favorite is Mobil 1. That being said, I am just as confused now as when I first started researching the various syn oils. H-D says that their oil can be used in all 3 applications, where those who advocate Mobil 1 chose to use the V-Twin in the crank and Mobil 1 75/90 in the tranny and another in the primary. Why not just use Mobil 1 in all 3 applications like the H-D Syn is used? Can the Mobil 1 be used in those applications?
As for making the engine quieter, is that so you can better hear the loud pipes you install? Doesnt that defeat the whole idea of being "LOUD" in the first place? I am not knocking the benefits of running Mobil 1, as I just want to make an informed decision in regards to switching to a syn oil.

Let me see if I can explain this for you,
Loud pipes is music to the ears, noisy engines are not.
The reason you don't use engine oil in the trans or all 3 as some put it is that a transmission requires a gear oil not an engine oil because of the shear factor of the gears acting like knives. harley advocates use in all three IMO because it's more profitable for them to say this and easier to eventually stock one type of oil for most applications. There's been instances of trans. failures due to the lubricity of the syn3 oil they want to use. Just doesn't cut it and eventually I think it will come around to bite them in the hind quarter. A gear oil like Mobil 1 75/90 or redline shockproof heavy will work well in the trans and give you good longivity also.
