Default Oil filter change hack

Those that have been changing their own oil for years (like me) likely already know this one but, I'm kinda proud how this one worked out. I used the cardboard box the new filter came in and tore off the large flap that sticks out (no pic). Curved the box slightly and tucked it under the oil filter before loosening it. That can be messy ya know? It's like the damn thing knew where to fold itself to ensure a downhill drain right into the oil pan. FNA!

Pretty cool. I’ve never gotten the dang orange HD plastic thing to work properly.

I just did my 15k service today and said to my wife “I can never change the oil without making a f-ing mess of the garage floor”.

I have never had a problem with it..my oil changes are no muss no fuss and clean..you sure you don't have the TC version..they made a designated M8 one you know..twist snap click into place and no mess..I do stuff a square of cut up pillow case or bed sheet under it to soak up the tiny bit that does make it past but it's barely nothing

I use one of the large Coke bottles which I cut to the desired length and size. I saved the last one and will continue to use it.

I haven't had any problems with the orange HD plastic thing, but I usually punch a hole at the lowest point in the filter and drain it first, not much left to come out by the time I unscrew the filter.

I normally use tin foil to make a "funnel" but like what Glidin did.

I just changed my oil last night and used my little orange tray and always end up with a quarter size oil drip on the floor. I think i have better luck with the cut up soda bottle. I may cut and fit a gear oil bottle next and see how it works.

coffee mate creamer bottle works great. I just cut a half section out of bottom so I can finish spinning filter till it drops into container. Let it sit for a few minutes then remove the whole system and wipe area and install new filter.....like someone else mentioned just laying a rag under filter area will catch any drops.
