Just thought I would weigh in on the oil debate. I have to admit I hate to use something the MoCo doesn't recommend for my RK. I have read some compelling info here that I am still digesting. I did stop using Syn 3 in my transmission about 800 miles ago. I am now using HD trans. oil for the FL series and HD primary lube. It seems to me that my transmission is quieter, the shift is more positive and more click than clunk- GOOD! The clutch had little difference for about the first 50-100 miles, then I noticed it seemed to engage smoother and more positively, not grabbing just positive. My primary is quieter too -GOOD!! Overall I like the change. I think my RK likes it to. She is coming up on 40,000 and been in Syn 3 all her life. I'll keep reading, thanks for the help.

It was great to read your post as I too drew pretty much the same conclusions you have stated. At my 1K service interval, I listened to the motorheads at the dealership and had Syn 3 put in all three holes. After about 100 miles, I was not pleased with the performance of my tranny or primary, let alone all the new noises the bike seemed to be making. I very quickly drained the tranny and replaced it with the HD trans oil and drained the primary and replaced it with HD primary lube. Needless to say, I am much happier with a quieter transmission and a smoother shift. As for the Syn 3, I'm still running it in the engine...
