I getting ready to turn my bike over to my local dealership for a 5000 mile service, and was want to change my engine oil to synthetic oil. I am thinking of keeping the tranny, and the primary with there basic oils, but the engine synthetic oil. I here alot of arguments of brands but I like to know a honest opinon which is better The Amsoil oil or Harley's Synthetic oil. I know they may offer me their brand.

 

I'm no authority , but I hear on these forums that Amsoil is superior to HD oils.

 

They're both good,I mean come on with H-D offering 7 year extended warranties do you think they want engine failures do to sellinginferior oil?Just use what you think is best in the engine and primary(synthetic)the same oil works fine in both.And yes I also think a good gl-5rated trans lube is better in the trans.(synthetic)Bel-Ray or Spectro works for me.

 

There is no "better." All of the choices meet the manufacturer's specification. That's your answer. After that it's all opinion and the hope that your bike won't get crushed by a bus before the engine wears out.

 

I can't gurantee it, but I've read in other places that the H-D Lubes are made by Citgo.... Citgo is owned by Argentina/Chavez - I will not send any of my money to this a**wipe ever again. I've been know to ride right past 3 Citgo stations when my tank is running on fumes to get gas somewhere else.

I use the Mobil 1 V-TWIN 20w50 in the black/charcoal colored bottles. you can find it at most Autozones and Advance Auto Parts stores. I also use the Fram PH8022 Motorcycle Oil Filters.

 

all will work fine... the rest is marketing.

 

I've read on several other locationsthat HD SYN-3 is actually a blend of dino and syn. oils. My preference for a long time has been Mobil 1 V-twin 20/50. Your choice, enjoy your freedom of choice while you can.
