fist oil change on my 1200c sporty
well time to put the sporty up for the year, so i decided to change the oil. got it warmed up and dug in to it, went good especially since it was the first time i ever changed oil on a bike ever. i did cut up a 2 liter bottle and used it a a funnel/shield to go under the filter when i spun it off (not a drop got anywhere) ! I was wondering if anyone would reccomend a petcock to drain oil easier than undoing a hose clamp and plug all the time....my only concern would be that if it ever were to catch some thing and open up ?
i opted for a k&n chrome filter since the custom model i have has a sh*t ton of chrome already on it.
the oil i used was from schaffer oil, http://www.schaefferoil.com/705_racing_oil.html opted for the supreme 7000 synthetic plus 20w50 racing oil for v-twins. I used to use this in a couple hi-po small blocks a few years ago and always had good luck....my indy uses it and strongly recommended it. i totally forgot the stuff was green in color till i started pouring it !
anyways if you want to keep a clean bike when removing the filter slice a 2 liter in 1/2 lengthwise and cut off the bottom, make any notch cuts needs so the bottle fits against the block fully under the filter and spin it off, no mess or even a drop on the bike ! ! !
i picked up some spectro for the primary but that is gonna wait until spring, i rode it for a lil while after the oil change yesterday and woke up this am with snow on the ground !
