The k&n is a good filter but hiflo makes it & it's about 1/2 price under the hiflo brand name,i use it on my suzuki b/c the thread size is metric & i can't put a supertech on it.I use supertech or m1 on the harley.

I just bought some hiflos' to try them out. Supposed to be the same as the K&N, with a few less pleats, and without the nut. And they're quite a bit cheaper.

Good idea. Then I bang the tips of some tin-snips into the nail holes for leverage to twist the filter off.

I do too, it's cheap insurance and you don't know what the filtering micron rating is on the other filters.

You can easily call a filter a 5-micron filter and it really doesn't mean a thing other than it will catch some 5-micron particles. If it catches one 5-micron particle out of 100...you can still call it a 5-micron filter. If it caught every 5-micron particle, it would rapidly clog. Like it or not....you have a lot of particles larger than 5-microns in size passing through your filter. Efficiency is the number you need to be looking at and I do not want a filter that is 100% efficient. If it were....it would be a block of wood. You can see efficiency ratings on any name brand filter, but not the HD filter. We don't know who makes the HD filter, but I think it is Champion. The MOCO sells "Genuine HD" wearing apparel made in China, so who knows where their filters come from on any given day.

I really like these. It facilitates examining the residue and saves a bunch of impure landfill. Additionally it cools your oil! Would have bought one for my 10,000-mile service but for the cost. Best price I've found was ~$140. The HD throw-away is $10.
