Default digital oil dipstick

I bought a new H-D digital oil dipstick back in 09 for my 08 Ultra Classic. Two days ago, I pushed the button and it only read the two bottom squares. I added 1/2 qt and it didn't change. I added another qt and it still didn't change. Obviously, I knew it was overfilled because it started blowing oil into the carb, with resulting oil splatter all over the left side of my bike. I changed the oil and cleaned up the bike and it now runs and looks fine. (The dipstick still reads only the two bottom squares. The temp seems to be OK.

My question is this: Is there any way to fix this dipstick, it cost me $150 back in 09. It wouldn't still be under warranty would it ????

Any advice is appreciated.

Are you sure you have the correct one made for your model bike?

When mine started acting up installed a new battery and it works fine again. I use the stock dipstick to verify all the oil level readings.

Yes, it's for my bike, it has worked fine since I got it (new) back in 09. I will change the battery, even though it reads over 3V.

My first one stopped working within the first year so it was covered under warranty, so far no problems with the second one (going on 3 years)

A friend has one and it wasnt working properly after about a year or so, She pushed the button in and held it for a few seconds which re-set it , its worked properly ever since

Try resetting it

I had one that worked very well for four years. It became erratic as far as both oil temp and level this year. I put a new battery in and it was still erratic and way off in both readings. So, I put the original dipstick back in.

Not worth the money for me to buy a new one.

I got tired of messing with mine and put an analog gauge in the fairing where the air temp gauge was.
