I have a Phase 1 screamin bitch, Redline racing oil is what my mechanic recommends, his father has a ultraglide with 190,000 miles on it. And has used Redline since new, he swears by it. The oil has a " stick" to it that's amazing. It doesn't all flow back to the oil pan, it sticks to the upper engine componets, that means no more dry starts. And I race my bike often, Im still smoking most bikes, and the motor is super strong, no sign of any engine wear, at 33,000 miles with NO engine work ever done

Had a KLR 650, good bike, the manuel said use diesel oil if you need oil and can't find motorcycle oil. That being said, I wish someone would just say what all those letters on the can mean, the ABs ACs and anything else they can think to put on there and charge you more. Like what is the difference between a 20w/50 car oil and a 20w/50 diesel oil and a 20w/50 motorcycle oil except those letters. By law they should mean something that you can take an oil company to court if it does not mean what they say it means! I know the three or four 750 Hondas I had along with the two 1000cc Gold Wings lived just fine off everyday over the counter oil as did my 67 BSA. Except for weight, there was never a difference put on the old Harley oil which would go up to 60w, which was heavy for cooling properties.

There are differences. Do some research-don't believe what you read here - you probably wouldn't believe it anyway if it differs from what you believe. I know you have researched oil from reading your other posts.
Way back in the day(50's -60's) I used Sears/Shell/any auto oil - didn't even know there was motorcycle specific oil - none of my metric bikes had a lick of problems. Oil threads are only good for stirring up arguments. Just use any correct viscosity grade oil and you won't have a problem - all oils are pretty much the same- just some are a little better then others at certain things-not enough to damage your bike. Just remember to change at the appropriate times.

If it makes you feel warm and comfy using what you use, don't worry about what other people use or say.

I was on the road down in Florida. I needed 1 qt. This huge Wally-World didn't have M1 motorcycle oil, but it did have M1 15-50w car oil. Of course no problems. (My local, smaller Wal-Mart has a nice little M/C section with Mobil and Valvoline M/C specific oil.)
