Australia rear lights?

Default Australia rear lights?

Ladies and Gents of Australia, I'm planning to move to the Lakes Entrance area within a year and a half or so, and plan to bring my bikes with me. One is a Rocker C and the other will be a Road King Special, and in the US they both have red bullet lights in the rear that are both the turn and brake lights. From what I understand Australia requires the turn signals to be amber, so can I just replace my lenses and LEDs with the international Amber/Red combos, or am I going to be required to mount an additional brake light? If any of you have either a Rocker or a Road King Special / Street Glide / Road Glide and could show me a pic of how your rear lighting is set up, I would sure appreciate it.

My wife is Australian, and I have work skills that are needed in Australia. I reckon they will let me in without too much hassle.

First... it's complicated, each state might have slightly different rules.

There are spacing rules. Turns have to be amber, brakes have to be read, no other white light except reverse (to the rear)
If you add turn signals then you might have to disable the original ones (because of distances or light output levels)

Flashing strip turns are legal (AFAIK) on cars, not sure about bikes.

But then - if you ask here and people have told you wrong - YOU get the fine, not them.

NB - you will also need to get your bikes inspected ("over the pits"), and a compliance plate fitted - it costs around $2200 to do a car.
Failure to do the inspection = no registration.
Failure to do the compliance = (a few times, rare) car/bike crushed.

I looked into it (coming from the UK to Oz) - it's easier to sell there and buy again in Australia, unless you have emotional attachments to the bikes.

Yes I know about the compliance and importation fees and requirements. I'm trying to pre-do as much as I am allowed to before I ship the bikes, as it makes it cheaper and plus I hate other people touching my bikes. My Rocker I am very attached too, it is irreplaceable as far as I am concerned. And the King is far Far cheaper to import vs. sell and repurchase down under. Plus as my wife and I are both licensed we are allowed to bring two.

I am mostly curious as to what these bikes use for rear lighting stock in Aus?

Bringing the bikes in requires RAWS so an approval

The bike will be touched by many people it will be washed and fumigated.

Choose a RAWS dealer who can ship prep and register your bikes. They can register for a particular state. Just be careful registered in one state doesnt mean it will be legal in all states. 16 inch apes in queenslad will see you fined every day!
A quick look at google show rockers are about AUD 3500. Screaming eagles are dear something with speedos i believe all bikes are going to need speedos. Do the math on importing in the good old days when your dollar was worthless importing bikes and parts was great. Unfortunately those days are gone.

Just be aware that the roadworthy inspection is a one off and only needs to be done when transferring ownership. You are looking at 600 /700 dollars rego per year per bike. This includes 3rd party insurance, mind you need to cover your bike! This cost might seem extreme but the cover is the best in the world and is referred to as a no fault compensation scheme. At the moment there is a bit of emphasis on exhausts. Always pays to have the oem ones available Noise etc.Not sure on cats dont know of anyone with one still fitted!
