Installed Harley Skid Plate
#12
I just installed the optional skid plate (49000191). I wanted better protection on the battery & voltage regulator given the front fender is so short. All kinds of road debris could be kicked by the front tire.
The install was very straight forward but a couple of the torx head bolts on the standard skid plate were a bear to get off on my bike. Two of the bolts looked a little buggered up so the torx bit just didn’t want to fit correctly. After a little swearing I was able to get them off. To prevent this sort of thing from happening down the road I went to a local hardware store and picked up some hex head bolts (M8x1.25-30). The hex heads bolts I used were 13mm, the same size as the bolts used on the brush guard.

IMO, radiator guard is more important than the skid plate for this bike. Even if you never take it off road, road debris can be thrown into the radiator hard enough to take it out.

Radiator guard, true! I went for a soft version, who s dampening the impact, and costs only about 10 USD:

Aftermarket ones on Amazon and Ebay for $200ish. Probably still worth it though? Someone out there made one with extra cushion or something at the bottom so if you actually smash something really good it'll take impact away from your engine but that thing was expensive
