Default Installed Harley Skid Plate

Very straightforward install. All holes lined up perfectly and 6 bolts later the much heavier duty skid plate is on. One of those things that I think should have been on it from the factory but it's a Harley...just wish it came in chrome j/k

What specs did you use for tightening the bolts?

Regarding from the factory…not everyone rides where they need that. Not wants the look & weight. It’s not necessary for the 89% of riders that will never ride off pavement.

Exactly. It looks great, but it's money and weight I don't need.

Now master cylinder guards on the other hand.......

Someone on the facebook group is working on that. I found it by accident. I don't do Facebook.

It does look much better though - and it's a very nicely made piece which is super easy to install (or remove).

I have one on mine. Torque spec is "not too tight".

EDIT: It is also friggin' expensive for what it is...

For the added protection it gives I can't imagine anyone not wanting to protect the regulator sitting there getting pounded by everything the front time kicks up on it and it may weigh a whole 3 pounds more if that than the thin stamped steel one.

I couldn't find the torque specs for the skid plate so I did blue Loctite them and torqued them to 15 ft lbs. I re-torqued them when I got home with it after a few hours of riding and they were all right where they were supposed to be. This skid plate has rubber bushing in the mounting setup and has inserts that goes in them so it isn't rigid mount like the factory one.

Thanks. I have been searching the net for the specs and can’t find them… sounds like you have found the sweet spot.

Mine came in this weekend, hopefully get to it soon. Voltage regulator protection is my main reason for it on the gravel roads I ride.
