Default Connecting Devices to Heated Gear Connectors

For those of you that have connected devices (i.e. GPS, etc.) to the heated gear connectors under the seat.

What was the best way that you found to route the wiring from under the seat to the front of the bike? (i.e. GPS mounted on handlebars, etc.)
- Did you run the wires on the left side or the right side of the bike?
- Did you have to remove the tank?

I have the coax to SAE adapters, I'm just looking for ideas on the best way to route the wiring from under the seat to the front of the bike.

Thanks!

I ran it on the left side of the bike below the tank. Ran the wires in a fiberglass high heat wrap 1/2"

where I had single wires and into 1" where I had multiple as I have a GPS, Farbin horn, Virb camera and dual USB port. Zip tied as needed. No need to lift the tank. Don't see it unless you're looking for it.

I saw one guy mounted a garage door opener under the gas tank cover. Looks like running a small cable under it would work.

I've been debating where to put mine. You remember where you saw the picture?

mounted mine with velcro to inside of left cowling wing (or whatever it's called)- it's held fine for 5,000 miles and 2 dirt crashes

a bit off-topic.. but good enough me thinks...

I asked my dealer the other day, what the Amp rating was of those outputs.. he didn't know, so I went the RTFM route.. but couldn't find it in the Owner's manual either.. so I did some more digging.. and found it in the wiring diagrams... the Heated Grips

Also interesting to see how the PAC relay is used (single pole double throw) when the ignition is ON, to switch battery to the heated gear and disconnect the Battery Tender connection, and the the other way (disconnect heated gear from battery and connect battery tender to battery), when the ignition is OFF

When I installed my HD auxiliary lights, I ran the wires as the instructions said to do. Ran the GPS wire same route as the lights, in the on the left side of neck under plastic cover. Then into main wiring Harness on left side of bike, between lower half of ai box and frame. To go this way you do need to remove tank and top half of air box and loosen the bottom half of air box. Was going to have to remove tank any way, as I was installing extreme air filter.

The plastic cover on the tank comes off with a couple of screws (it really is just a cover) and then you can run wires from the connectors on the tank - just tape them to it in the middle and around the gas filler hole. I'm running a wire up to power a TomTom fixed on the bars taken from one of the coaxes. I use the other for a heated jacket (Gerbing - very good - it does jacket and then on to gloves).
It's a whole lot easier than in days gone by when you had to take the tank off !
