John Deere Flat Black Rattle Can
Probably already discussed but what is the proper name for the paint? For people who have done their bike with rattle cans could you share what you did...prep, product used for wiping down, sanding grit progression, number of coats, time between coats etc.
I'm thinking because it's a matte finish I could get away with rattle cans.

Thanks guy! Found it on this subforum under "John Deer Blitz Black"
Saw a used black denim SG and I keep going back to look at it..the colour just speaks to me.
Seriously considering it. I can always remove and prep the tins and have someone else shoot it if I don't want to bugger it up.
There's mention of the paint getting shiny if something rubs on it. I know there is a matte clear coat available...anyone try this?

I started painting cars a few years ago. Before that I tried to use can spray paint. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to do a good job with spray can paint. It is not a question of talent or how hard you try, it is just impossible!!!!!
Reasons:
you need 2 component primer to get rid of all scratches
you need 2 component clear coat to get good results.
Cost of spray can paint/primer/clear will be higher than good automotive paint.
I spent about $200 for spray cans and my 99 FLHT looked like ****! It would cost me probably not more than $100 for good paint/primer/clear.
Equipment is not as expensive as you think.
I use $16 spray gun from HarborFreight and get pretty good results painting on my backyard.
I am not going to discuss if matte black good color or not, but I almost killed a guy riding matte black bike, because I didn't see him!!!
