Default Advice please on metal grind paintwork.

Seems to be rust appearing & creeping under the paintwork, really bad on rear fender, but just started on front fender & now think the tank also, surely this is an issue with the painter & obviously moisture got to metalwork prior to paint ? Definately no signs of damage to top surface of paint anywhere.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Paul.

I have heard this happening on factory bikes also, thats why they stopped doing it.
One rule of thumb is that you cannot clear over bare metal there has to be some type of pirmer or sealer used.

But if you did want to do this again you have to be 100% sure that everything is clean and dry. but dont expect it to last long.

The way it looks though it would seem that there was water in the air line while spraying. this is a application problem like you said.

The only way to fix it is to strip it down spot blast those areas and try again. I would not recommend trying this samething again.

Painters these days just use a silver base and some black paint to create the effect of bare metal you should look into this if you really want this look. At least then it will last.

Bare metal can be clear coated as long as its prepared with the correct products. Matthews Paint makes a product that will allow you to clear over bare metal. Wydir is right in saying that using a urethane clear over bare steel will only last for a short time primarily because of contamination. Just handling bare metal without gloves can cause issues...
