Default Touch up paint for black exhaust?

I had my V & H short shot Black exhaust installed today and they got a scratch or two. That black on there is not that durable at all.

What have you guys used to touch them up?

I am thinking of some high temp matte black paint?

Thanks alot gentlemen!

I have come to the conclusion that the black coating on the V&H exhaust sucks so I pulled the shields off and painted them with Harley Davidson Texture Black.

I am going to let them set overnight and will let you all know how they turned out.

man i hate to be the one to tell you this but i know several people that have tried that paint on pipes shields and it melted it has a 300* limit... the coating on them stock is ceramic so it is very fragile. if you end up needing to coat them please let me know

what did you end up doing for the heat shields bud. I'm wondering because a friend of mine laid my bike down and doesn't have the 150 it takes to buy a new lower heatshield.

I have ceramic coated exhaust and I got a couple of minor tiny nicks when putting on some heatshields. I sprayed black heat paint on a piece of cardboard and had a tiny model paint brush that i dabbed the freshly sprayed paint on cardboard and gently touched the spot on pipe. Covered it up. If it is big scratch in obvious place it will show though. My technique will only work for tiny **** scratches. Not big ones.

If the original pipe is ceramic coated that is the best you can get for black. It is fragile, but no other type of coating will top it for pipes.

good luck

Hell, I just used Rustoleum flat black BBQ paint on my pipes. After 3 months, no problems at all. This paint is good up to 1200 degrees.

I use it on shields mufflers, too. Perfect flat with a little satin sheen and doesn't seem to go grey like the VHTs I've used. Haven't done headpipes with it tho.
