Default Have an idea for hidden rear brake light, tell me if im crazy.

Im toying with the idea of trying this out, before I spend the money testing it id rather know if someone has already tried it or if it just flat out wont work.

Im a big fan of chopping and getting rid of rear brake lights, but ofcourse they serve a purpose and are required to ride on the street. I have seen the thin LED strips that mount under the fender but am not a fan that they usually just stick on. I also like the fender to cover more of the tire than that would allow.

So my idea is to cut a hole in the fender and find an LED light that is thin enough to fit behind the tire so it will basically be flush with the fender. Then fill in the gap with filler and sand it. The tricky part, mostly because im not experienced with paint, is that id have to paint the lense with a transparent paint similar to VHT Nite-shade. This would be on a black fender. So does anyone know if its possible to paint the entire fender with transparent paint(obviously the rest of the fender will already be black) and not have the lense area look out of place? Does someone maybe have a better idea?

Like I said guys im not very experienced with paint, really looking to learn a little something. Thanks!

Ryan

any transparent paint will work just fine man, trick is to blend the edges... when i did my first one i googled hot rod tail lights. i ended up pouring and epoxy into a cut out i made in the fender and boxed in the back part with LEDS, tinted the epoxy with red trans paint... got to stir it so that all the bubbles come out... from there i sanded the **** out of it, then buffed it like you would a paint almost... till it was flush and smooth, trans paint over the top.. came out great. but was a hell of alot of work

The right combination of clear and color will work to spray the lense, it is a method used all the time on cars, my 300C has the tail lights custom painted to match the color of the car, not just tinted.

Probably a dumb question but do you run turn signals? Maybe wire your signals to double as brake/tail lights?
