Default Compensator replacement

After replacing my starter, the compensator has gotten to the point it now needs to be replaced. The new compensator kit comes with a oil deflector that needs to be glued to the inside of the primary cover. Is this a part that has to be glued in, can I leave it out? My Local dealer has the glue kit minus the caulking gun for $54. The service dept said they would glue it in for me for 1/2 hour of labor and cost of glue at $10. I think the service writer is wrong about price of glue, he seemed to be guessing about that. My bike has 52k on it and the cost to put this small piece of plastic in seems excessive. So can I leave this part off and or is there some non HD epoxy out that will work just as well? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

The plastic tray is what feeds lubrication to the comp. you can do it yourself with regular epoxy

Go with a Baker. If you must use the SE comp, go to your local auto store and get some epoxy. $50 is bs when you can get the same stuff for $6.00.

Does the glue do any good if it doesn't have any time to cure?

Even the 60 second glue needs 24 hours to achieve maximum strength.

Thanks for the info, I will head to my local auto parts for some epoxy. I'm going with the SE comp, since I already have it and heading out on a road trip soon. Thanks.

What are some good brands of epoxy that work well for this application?

JBWeld 2 part works great. Make sure everything that's gonna be touched by the glue is cleaner than an operating room. Good luck.
