Im beginning to think the reason Im having so many issues with clutch is because my plates or something beyond the primary and cable adjustments.
I have done 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 adjustments now.
I STILL cannot, under any circumstance get the bike in N from 1st gear when bike isnt in motion.
-with 1/4 turn backout, I have the friction zone starting off the grip but its seems to be a more narrow friction zone.
-with 1/2 I am getting some clutch creep or bike wanting to pull almost as soon as the level leaves the grip.
with 3/4 backed out I get moving as soon as the level is moving of the grip at all. Friction zone seems alot wider and were I like it...but is that a false feel because the creep?
Slack at perch Ive done the thickness of a dime and nickel as slack.
Does this sound like I should just stop pissing around and replace the plates?
I have new handlebars and cable arriving soon from Hill Country so the cable change will at least happen. Any advice on the odds of a plate change being the likely solution?

I have no experience with the HD oils. Personally I'd rather use anything other than HD. But, I have found that the 20W-50 oils are too heavy and give me clutch drag as you're experiencing. I use Amsoil and use 10W-40 Metric in my primary. It shifts nice and find neutral easily. It's also very easy to check your clutch plates. The manual tells you how to do it and what the specs should be.

Try this as a test. With your bikevon smooth level ground, and the motor running. Put it in first gear, and keep the clutch pulled in, release the brakes. Does it feel like it is trying to pull forward? If so, the clutch is dragging.
Cable stretch, and actuator wear over time, adds to clutch drag. Worn friction plates, typically cause slipping not drag. Warped plates can cause drag.
Try using the "clutch adjustment made easy" procedure in the sticky area of the clutch sub-forum.
