Cool Neutral light suddenly inop

New to the forum here and I’m already asking for help! Lol!

Figured I’d get the forums thoughts on the issue I discovered yesterday on my 14 FLHR. I noticed that my neutral light is no longer working on my dash lights.

Here are my findings after troubleshooting:
o All other dash lights function as normal
o The bike will start when in neutral WITHOUT the clutch pulled in.
o The bike will start in any gear WITH the clutch pulled in
o I’m getting 12v through the neutral sensor only when in neutral (I believe the sensor is good)

Prior to noticing the neutral light failure, I washed the bike and did a three-hole service.

I’d really appreciate any thoughts on this?

Sounds like the neutral switch is working as it should..

Pull the connector on the speedo and clean it out. Reseat.. Possible poor / corroded connection to the neutral light that connector. Bulb may be out? If there is one.

My guess is the neutral light has blown out. The same thing happened on my 2011 Ultra. The indicator lights are LED's and can't easily be replaced. You'll need to replace the indicator lights/wire harness. You might want to test for continuity between the wire at the neutral light and the wire at the neutral switch.

One thing to note on a 2014 bagger, there isn't any continuity between the neutral switch and the light. The switch goes to the BCM where it's translated into a CAN message that goes to the speedometer. The Speedo lights the neutral light. You can check codes but neutral switch seems to be functioning if it allows starting then in neutral and requires clutch lever in when starting.

I forgot the 2014 Rushmore models use the CAN Bus (Controller Area Network). For good diagnostic information, you should purchase the Harley Touring Models Electrical Diagnostics Manual. Part number: 99497-14

Thanks for the input everyone. It appears as if it’s either the speedo or the indicator LED itself. I’m leaning more towards the speedometer getting water within it when I washed it. I’m going to disassemble it tomorrow and inspect/dry it out.
