Default I'm just not sure

After hearing noise from primary I disassembled the whole works. I had recently put in a Hayden tensioner and I wanted to rule that out before going crazy. After reinstalling the Baker compensator I noticed the spring pack is loose behind the comp. Should this spring pack be firmly in place?
I rechecked the chain alignment and it is correct so the comp can't go back farther. I'd like to take advantage of a 50 degree day tomorrow but that might not work. Thanks in advance for any help.

If after assembly, the spring pack is still loose, you have an issue.. There should be some preload on the pack.

What year bike ? Did you install the comp ? How long was it in use ? Either way, something got hung up during assembly and you didn't catch it. OR,.... If it was OK initially, and started making noise later, check the comp parts out VERY carefully ! I had a baker do the same thing. I forget which part it was, but 1 of the parts cracked which in turn took the tension off the bolt. Then the bolt came a little loose and it started to rattle a lot. That there is why I no longer have a Baker in my bikes.

YES it was loc-tited

Best thing since sliced bread IMHO, but what has that got to do with his compensator spring pack? Yeah, yeah, I know what they say about opinions, lol
