Primary/Transmission/Driveline/ClutchFind answers to general powertrain, primary and transmission. Have clutch issues and need suggestions? Post them here.
I’ve just replaced the spring pack in my compensator, and after putting everything back together and starting the bike, I now hear a whining noise while the bike is idling.
I did the Chain tension to spec, but didn’t check in multiple spots, so there’s a chance that it is tighter than it is supposed to be. I just wanted some confirmation on what you guys think it would be, before I go back into the primary.
Need to check in multiple spots, chain will tighten as it get hotter from the expansion of the clutch pack and compensator.
Adjust at the tightest spot to spec.
Year a specific model of motorcycle would be helpful as some are manual, some are self adjusting.
Was the compensator and clutch pack gears in alignment to spec?

Next, chains don't have the manufacturing tolerances as engines. Finally, the chain could have a slight "bow" in it considering XX miles and being almost 20 years old and unless you took the chain off, flipped it and measured again you have no way to know that.

It’s an ‘06 deuce, so manual tensioner. As for alignment, I ordered a smaller spacer than what was stock in it (it was still basically the same size), but the chain was still out of alignment. I did not check sprocket to sprocket, but I would assumed it’s the same as it was before I took everything apart and put it back together.
