I bought a .12 spacer from eastern motorcycle parts, or something like that, but it seems to be about the same size as the original one, which is a .15, so I think someone screwed up somewhere. Idk, I’ll prolly end up just throwing it back together how it came out

You shouldn't be using the chain itself for alignment measurements. You should be going sprocket to sprocket. Few reasons, 1st is the chain may not be aligned exactly the same on both sprockets, ie one side could be forward and the other back, it is not an "exact" fit on the sprockets. Next, chains don't have the manufacturing tolerances as engines. Finally, the chain could have a slight "bow" in it considering XX miles and being almost 20 years old and unless you took the chain off, flipped it and measured again you have no way to know that.
