Default Transmission noise in 4th gear

I have an 06 Road King Classic, was wondering if anybody has experienced a noisy transmission while in 4th gear. All the other gears are quiet except 4th. Any replys would be appreciated.

06 Ultra here and I just noticed the same thing yesterday on a 100 mile ride. Almost like a metal ringing sound right around 2700-3000 RPM in 4th. Seems to intensify if you get on the throttle. Plan to have it check my self as its something I can reproduce at will.

I'll post if I find out anything.

Hey Bthrel, that metal ringing sound is dead on. Kind of like the old wind up alarm clock with 3 pillows over it. I hopefully will get mine back from the dealer today and I'll post the results.

Cant wait to hear what they tell you. I wont be able to take mine in till next month (work and travel). You pegged it on the description of the sound. Sure hope its nothing to worry over.

Cheers

Mine has a sound something like you describe every since I got it. About 5000 miles on it and it ain't no louder than when I first notice it sometimes it don't do it or maybe I just don't notice it.

Well I called the dealer and they said they haven't had a chance to look at it yet, maybe tomorrow. I posted this same thing on the Touring section on Tues. And a couple of guys (or gals) have the same noise on their o6 Ultras. I beginning to have a hunch that its nothing but if the dealer comes back and gives me the ol "Its normal" I have a 2 year warranty and I refuse to worry about it. Like I said I'll post results whenever I get it back.

Did anyone find out anything about this noise. I have a 05 ultra that makes the same noise. If its a problem I would really like to know the warrenty is about to run out. the bike has 15,000 miles on it but the noise seeems to be the same.

I'm going to ask at my5k service. Wont be till sometime in July because a little thing called work seems to be getting in the way (Oh well, it pays the bills). Mine isnt any worse or better. Always in 4th and two different RPM zones, 2100-2200 and 2700-3000. Sounds kind of like a old fashion alarm clock under a pillow.

If your talkin' about the 4th gear whine when you let off....it's normal. Straight cut heavy duty gears, something about the path the power takes when in 4th gear. But, if you have noise during acelleration that might be a problem.
