Default Trans Sprocket Nut 2001 FLSTC

The dealer told me I have a loose Trans sprocket nut loose. In reading the manual it appears that I have to drop primary cover,. pull compensating sprocket and clutch packet to tighten it. I also have to buy a special tool to tighten the darn nut. Any insight would be helpful, like do I need to buy the special tool to tighten the nut or will normal socket work? Can I make a tool?

You can make a tool. Most weld a piece of pipe onto a socket. Google it or do a search here on the forum and you will see the homemade tool. HD now sells the tranny sprocket lock tool also. Yes you have to drop the inner primary and all to get to the nut.

Default Thanks Bro

I sure was hoping I didn't have to drop the inner primary too. But, I'm sure glad I got the skinny on it before I started. Somehow I miss the old Pans where I could rebuild a clutch along the highway and keep going.
