Are you sure you have the right part? Really no secret to putting the race on but they are very brittle and if stressed will easily break. If the race is cocked and you try to press it on, it will break. The race for the later models is different than the race for the early models but I don't know what the difference is. Dan89 probably does, he is up to speed on the transmission stuff and you should listen to what he has to say.
It wouldn't hurt to heat the race up but I have never had to do that.
If heating a tempered race do not exceed 280*. I use an old elec hot pan and put some hyd oil and a thermometer in there. I agree with djl though. Its prolly the wrong one.
I am replacing the sleeve, but am having problems getting it to go on,
Bought the tool started putting it on and it broke the sleeve, what secret is there to it? Do I heat the sleeve or freeze the shaft what do i do lost.
Mine is a 2007 ultra forgot to say, there are 2 different ons, ? darn not sure
which one I have, guess i need the vin number to find out which one i have?
Went back to Harley and yes the 2007 takes the bigger one, Harley parts book gives you both part numbers but don't tell you witch one, it is the bigger one 15000 difference, went right on.
