ROAD TRIP
This will be my first long road trip, any help isappreciated.
Has anyone been to the Skywalk in the Grand Canyon? I was at a website that said the roads there are bad and it costs $75 to go out on it.
If anyone would like to meet for a ride one day, please email me and let me know before June 15th.
I am leaving in mid-June and have to be back bymid-July. This is my route:
Leaving NJ going to Skyline Dr. and Blue Ridge Pkwy. via Rt. 78 and Rt. 81 to Rt. 66.
Riding the Tail of the Dragon.

Rt. 40 W through AK to OK.
Rt. 40 W to Muskogge Tnpk. N to Tulsa, OK., to Rt. 44 (Rt. 66) down to OK City.
Rt. 40/66 W and plan to see the sites along Rt. 66.
Rt. 40 W to 84W to Sante Fe, NM.
Rt. 25 S to Albuquerque to seea friend.
Rt. 40 E to Rt. 14 or 25 N to Rt. 84 W.
Rt. 84 W to Rt. 160 W to Durango, CO.
Rt. 160 to Four Corners.
Rt. 160 to Rt. 98 to Rt. 89 N towards Kanab.
Rt. 89 N to Bryce Canyon and Zion NP.
Rt. 9 S to Kanab to Rt. 89 S to AZ to Rt. 64 W to Grand Canyon.
Rt. 40 W to Rt. 93 N to Hoover Dam/Las Vegas, NV
Rt. 395 to Reno.
Rt. 80 E to Rt. 50.
Rt. 50 E to Ely and to the Northern RR Museum.
Rt. 50 W to Rt. 93 N to Rt. 80 E.
Depending on time and/or cc bill, Rt. 80 E to WY, SD or home to NJ.
My concerns are the availability of camping, motels, and gasoline off the interstates (Four Corners, Bryce Canyon and Zion NP areas).
Any 'must see' places, please let me know.
The best ribs, bbq, steak and pie places would be deeply appreciated.

You're going to be in Durango. You're only a few miles from the most spectacular roadway in the continental US, don't miss it. Take 550 north to Ouray. That's the "Million Dollar Highway". It will take you through Silverton, and over Molas Pass, Coal Bank Pass, and Red Mountain Pass. It will be like riding the Alps.
Come back through Telluride and over Lizard Head Pass, and back to Cortez. Spend the night in Cortez, because there isn't much on your route after that.
It's only about 200 miles. But it will take you most of the day, if not all day. The roads are spectacular, and the scenery is even better. You'll want to spend a little time in Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride. You'll stop to take pictures and enjoy the view often. This little side trip will be the highlight of your year.

Plans changed. I will not be going to the Tail of the Dragon, or Tulsa, OK. Ride to OK City, and start the sightseeing there (RT 66). I still plantogo to all the other places butI am going to make it to WY and SD.
After reading all of these posts, Inow know, the trip can change at the drop of a hat.
Thanks Bobcowan, this is the kind of info that helps.
