Trailer size for an Ultra
#22
I don't disagree with that statement but that is exactly what I'm looking for, a dedicated trailer for my Trike. I do have an open aluminum utility trailer that I use for the infrequent haul jobs I do and if that doesn't work, U-Haul has anything I might need. The low height of the Ironhorse means it will fit nicely through my garage door where some of the traditional cargo trailers won't.
My primary reason for a trailer is to haul my bike.
Any other uses is a plus.
I also want to be able to fit the trailer in my garage if I want too.
My garage door is 82.5" tall so most cargo trailers are too tall to fit.
I also have a nice open 5X8 trailer and a pickup in the event I need to haul something other than a bike.
I guess I'm still undecided on whether or not to go with the "ironhorse" modular type trailer.
Probably like most things, the cost in the end will dictate my decision.

Sorry I couldn't give you the reason you were looking for. Cost is certainly a consideration for most of us. In buying decisions like this I take cost out of the equation. That lets me know what I really want. Then I put cost back into the equation. If it fits into the budget that's the route I go. If not, it's time for plan B. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I have a Big Tex 6x10 V-nose. I think this is really the smallest practical size to haul an Ultra, and it's small enough not to need electric brakes. There is enough room to ride the bike in and strap it down easy enough and still have room to haul your gear. It has the ramp rear door and the side door for access a must.
I've hauled mine behind my wife's 6 cylinder Sport Trac without any issues.

Thanks all for the advice.
After hard thinking I decided that since the overwhelming reason to get an enclosed trailer is to haul my bike, I might as well get a trailer designed to do just that.
I pick up my Excalibur (Ironhorse like) trailer tomorrow.
It only weighs 800 .lbs and has an inside dimension of 5'X12'.

A single bike one like the one I got has a new price of $5000+ and a double bike/trike model runs $7000+.
But all the information I've read has nothing be positive things to say about them and from what I gather, if you don't have a rear view mirror you won't even know you're pulling a trailer even if you're pulling it with a 6 cyl. SUV.
My primary concern is serviceability if something breaks but I found a manufacturer called Magneta Trailers near Sioux City Iowa that makes this same configuration of trailer so that's a good resource.
Anyway at $2150 I think I'm in good shape.
